Outdoor Painters of Nevada is an informal community of artists who get together to paint, draw, and create outdoors. We explore locations throughout Northern Nevada and the surrounding region, enjoying the landscape and the experience of working from life.
We typically meet the first 3 - 4 Sundays for Plein Air - The last Sunday of every month is reserved for Portrait or Figure study with a live model at the Brewery Arts Center.

Not at all. All experience levels are welcome, from first-time plein air painters to working professional artists. The idea is to get outside, make art, learn from one another, and enjoy the day.

No. Oils, watercolor, acrylic, gouache, pastel, charcoal, pencil—bring whatever medium works for you.

There is generally no fee for outdoor painting meetups unless a particular location requires parking, admission, or another small expense. Any costs will be mentioned ahead of time.

Yes. Bring whatever you need to work comfortably outdoors: your art supplies, easel or drawing board, chair if desired, water, sunscreen, appropriate clothing, and anything else you may need for the location.

Locations change regularly. We paint throughout Northern Nevada and occasionally venture farther afield when there’s somewhere worth exploring. Upcoming locations and meeting details are announced in advance.

No. Come when you can and stay as long as you’d like. This is intended to be relaxed and flexible.

No. These outings are primarily opportunities for artists to work together rather than formal classes. That said, painting alongside other artists naturally creates plenty of opportunities to share ideas, techniques, and experience.

Absolutely. While plein air painting is at the heart of the group, artists working in other portable mediums are welcome.

There isn’t a complicated membership process. Check the upcoming schedule, choose an outing, bring your gear, and come paint with us.

Portrait in Oil
This 4-week class will guide you through the essentials of painting the portrait in oil. We’ll cover structure, value, color mixing, and capturing likeness, with an emphasis on creating strong foundations and expressive results. All skill levels welcome.
Introduction to Wildlife Sculpture
In this 4-week class, learn the fundamentals of sculpting animals from the inside out. We’ll cover armature building, layering clay, capturing movement, and understanding basic anatomy. Perfect for beginners and artists looking to sharpen their 3D skills.
